Michigan football fans should be over-the-moon excited about five-star running back Savion Hiter. If they aren't, they should just take a listen to what his running backs coach has to say.
That is his new running backs coach, Michigan assistant Tony Alford, who joined the "In the Trenches" podcast recently to talk about the running back room, among other topics, and gushed about the potential of Hiter, who was the No. 1-ranked running back in the 2026 class.
"I think you're getting an exceptionally explosive, off-the-charts explosive athlete," Alford said. "Powerful kid when he moves. You watch him in some drill work or doing conditioning, he'll make a cut and change direction. It's impressive."
When you watch Hiter run, it's hard not be mesmerized. Frankly, when the dude runs, I feel like I'm watching Saquon Barkley or Adrian Peterson. That's incredibly high praise, but that's just what I see.
Savion Hiter is already an 'alpha'
Alford said that the five-star running back, the first signed by Michigan football since Donovan Edwards, is already an "alpha."
"Here's what I love about him the most: He's not a typical wide-eyed freshman. He comes in and he's kind of like an alpha right now, and he wants to compete at a high level. If something's not right, he'll go back and do it again without you having to say, 'Go do it.' ... He's got some of that about him, which I really like because like I said, he's an alpha male now."Â
Jordan Marshall is RB1. Yet, by season's end, or even at the beginning, it shouldn't surprise anyone if Hiter has turned that into more of a 1A/1B situation.
