Some might argue with the fact that Michigan football is 3-0, but they would be doing just that: arguing with facts.
Regardless of what the NCAA has said about the timing protocols, there was time on the clock. ESPN's Dan Wetzel has even said so, even if others are unwilling or incapable of telling the truth.
The College Football Playoff selection committee said that they don't have the ability to overturn the result either. Michigan football is 3-0 and no amount of crying or complaining or saying Michigan has one loss, as Urban Meyer did on Fox's Big Nook Kickoff, will change that.
Beyond that, the Wolverines have one of the most impressive College Football Playoff resumes through three weeks of the season.
To be fair, that doesn't mean much, or it won't, if the Wolverines aren't successful in Big Ten play. It feels like Michigan football still needs to win seven of the next nine games. That won't be easy with a schedule that includes Iowa, Penn State, Indiana, Oregon, and Ohio State.
The other games aren't that easy either, especially teams like Minnesota and Michigan State. There is no win that can be taken for granted in the Big Ten. Rutgers reminded us of that.
Of the games played, though, Michigan has one of the most difficult strengths of the schedule. According to ESPN's strength of schedule metric, Michigan is ranked sixth. The Wolverines have already played two 10-win teams from last season, which includes Oklahoma, a team that made the College Football Playoff in 2025.
It's interesting that many have wanted to mock Michigan for having trouble against Western Michigan. Yet, ESPN has the Broncos projected to make the 12-team playoff. Western returned the MAC Player of the Year on offense, a 1,000-yard rusher, and a talented roster.
Michigan overlooked the Broncos, sort of the way the Wolverines felt like they overlooked UTEP. This is still a young team, especially on offense, and you have seen that so far this season.
The second half against UTEP was a step in the right direction. Michigan football outscored the Miners 35-3. There weren't any penalties or turnovers. It looked like the kind of team fans expected when Kyle Whittingham was hired.
We'll see if that will translate to the Iowa game on Saturday, but if the Wolverines can get another win, that strength of schedule metric will look even better.
