There hasn't been any hotter news in college sports right now than what is going on in Lubbock, Texas, with Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby, well, now former quarterback. The news hit Monday night that Sorsby has declared for the NFL Supplemental Draft, meaning he won't be playing in a Texas Tech uniform next season.
This news has not stayed within the Big 12. It has spread to about every Power 4 Conference as teams are beginning to treat the Red Raiders like the plague. Georgia and Nebraska were the first schools to bar all their teams from scheduling Texas Tech, and now other schools are following suit, including Michigan.
Yahoo Sports writer Ross Dellenger reported that Michigan has canceled a scheduled volleyball match against Texas Tech for the 2026 season. This could be just the start as the university plans to hold further discussions about prohibiting contests with the Red Raiders.
This decision came roughly around the same time that Sorsby announced he would be heading to the NFL Supplemental Draft, so it is yet to be seen whether or not that decision will sway programs like Michigan in playing Texas Tech again in the future.

Michigan could bar athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the future
While the drama of Sorsby being able to play due to a legal injunction deeming him eligible is now over with his declaration to the NFL Supplemental Draft, the aftereffects are now taking place. Texas Tech did not play their cards right with this one, continually putting their support behind Sorsby, and not just his recovery, but his playing football in the fall in a Red Raiders uniform.
In doing so, Texas Tech is creating quite a few enemies in the college sports world, like Georgia and Nebraska, and Michigan could be the next school to completely shut out the Red Raiders. The cancelled volleyball match could be the first domino to fall, but more could come. While schedules are still being built for sports like baseball and softball in the spring, the Red Raiders may not even be a team Michigan calls for non-conference matchups.
Texas Tech didn't land on Michigan's non-conference schedule for basketball, but now they probably won't even land on baseball or softball's either. While Michigan doesn't play the Red Raiders all that often, with the success of the basketball and softball programs as of late, Texas Tech could have been a formidable program to have the strength to bolster a resume for postseason play.
Sorsby won't be playing college football next season, but this drama still feels far from over. Michigan isn't even in the Big 12, but the reach of this drama is spanning a lot further than the conference, and now Texas Tech will need to answer for its actions.
