Michigan has an 'explosive' wide receiver fans have forgotten about

Anthony Simpson will join the Michigan football team for the 2025 season and he's one of the more underrated players on the roster.

Wide receiver is one of the biggest question marks brought up when people talk about the 2025 Michigan football team.

Despite the fact that the Wolverines didn't land any big-name wide receivers during the spring, there is reason to have confidence, that the 2025 receivers, will at least be better than the group was in 2024.

Donaven McCulley, the former Indiana wide receiver, who had 644 receiving yards for the Hoosiers back in 2023, should add a No. 1 wideout to the room. Fred Moore is another starting-caliber receiver who just needs to be more consistent, but showed in the ReliaQuest Bowl he can produce.

Yet, there is another wide receiver who hasn't been talked about much at all by fans this spring, probably because he wasn't with the team and that's Anthony Simpson, the former UMass wide receiver who transferred to Michigan football during the winter transfer portal window.

Simpson is sort of like McCulley. He didn't play or produce much in 2024. Yet, in 2023, he had 792 receiving yards when he was playing for the Mintuemen, and Steve Casula was the OC. Simpson is 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, and likely will fit best in the slot.

An "explosive" Michigan wide receiver is being overlooked

He wasn't able to join the team during the spring. Yet, Ron Bellamy, the Michigan football wide receivers coach, praised Simpson as "explosive" in an interview recently.

Simpson has 68 career receptions for just over 900 yards. To be fair, he has fewer than five receptions in each of his other college seasons. However, if he was healthy in 2024, that wouldn't have been the case, and that likely won't be this season for Michigan football.
