Michigan football is working on retaining current players, while also adding to the roster, and one of the top priorities on each front is securing more weapons for Bryce Underwood.
The true freshman starting quarterback confirmed that he will be back with Michigan football next season, and the Wolverines, led by new head coach Kyle Whittingham, are trying to build a championship contender around him.
Michigan is off to a strong start with the offensive line. Michigan retained its top five priorities on that front: Jake Guarnera, Andrew Babalola, Blake Frazier, Andrew Sprague, and Evan Link. Nathan Efobi and Brady Norton are back, too.
Michigan football is also loaded at running back, even with the departure of Justice Haynes, and the writing was clearly on the wall, as we told people on Thursday.
Good luck to him at Georgia Tech.
Talented pass catch eyes Michigan football
Michigan was smart to let Haynes walk and use some of that money on pass catchers. Former Utah tight end/wide receiver JJ Buchanan was on campus Thursday. He's my top target, because the 6-foot-3, 225-pounder dominated over the last three games of the season, averaging 71 yards per game,. with at least 65 yards in each, and one reception of 29 yards in each game, too. He also averaged 26 yards per reception during that stretch.
Texas WR transfer Jaime Ffrench Jr. said a Michigan visit is a "no-brainer" for him.

“That’s definitely coming soon.”

Buchanan, who is more wide receiver than a tight end, could change the offense. Another player who can help do that is former Texas wideout Jaime Ffrench Jr. who says that Michigan football is among his top two. He also said a visit to Ann Arbor is a "no-brainer", according to Ethan McDowell of On3.com.
Why Michigan fans should be encouraged about this one is that Ffrench, who is from Florida, is close to Andrew Marsh. He also talked about being close to Underwood. A tandem of Marsh and Ffrench, with Buchanan, incoming freshman Travis Johnson, and maybe a slot receiver from the portal, and Michigan would be cooking with gas.
Ffrench only played in four games last season for Texas, so he's got four years left to play. He was ranked 44th overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings in the 2025 class, and with the fact that he's a freshman, which would make it easy to enroll. It all makes perfect sense.
This is the receiver Michigan needs to land, on top of Buchanan, of course. Quincy Porter would be a stellar addition, too, but this one seems more realistic.
