For 59 minutes and 58 seconds, Michigan was the better team than Iowa last week. The stats prove that; anyone who witnessed the game proved that, but the scoreboard did not, and that's all that matters.

Nine times out of 10, Michigan football beats Iowa, but Saturday was the one circumstance that proved otherwise.

Kyle Whittingham was right in saying that Michigan feels like an 0-4 team because they were losing or tied in every game and struggled too. Iowa is not a better team than Michigan. They got lucky on the last play of the game because Michigan was in the wrong coverage. Michigan blew it, and the college football world rejoiced gleefully.

Michigan has its back against the wall after loss to Iowa

Peeking ahead, Michigan has the three best teams left in the Big Ten and can't afford another slip-up like that if they want to go to the playoff. The Wolverines know they will have to steal a win over Indiana, at Oregon, or in Columbus to boost their resume. The thing is, they only have about two games that can be chalked up as easy wins. The other six are going to be dogfights if they're not careful.

Josh Pate is the only media member to have the courage to realize that Michigan football should still be ranked higher than the Hawkeyes. He left Michigan at 25, and Iowa was unranked altogether. He specifically clarifies that his power ratings are not rankings, but he ruffled the feathers of many with his latest top 25 poll.

Missed opportunities and dumb penalties piled on to the fact that Iowa caught all the breaks on Saturday. The last time that Iowa won a game of that significance over a ranked program was 10 years ago. The last time Michigan handed a victory to an opposing school that they were clearly better than would have to be against TCU in the Fiesta Bowl. Michigan had no business losing that contest and now their season is teetering on the brink.
