When you have a quarterback, it makes recruiting wide receivers a little easier, and Michigan football is hoping to take advantage of that in the upcoming transfer portal window.
One wide receiver already on the radar is former Indiana QB/WR Donvan McCulley. McCulley suffered an injury earlier in the season and missed a few games before announcing he was going to enter the transfer portal.
As a junior, McCulley caught 48 passes for 644 yards and six touchdowns for the Hoosiers. He averaged 13.4 yards per reception. The former quarterback who was a dual-threat option, is 6-foot-5 200 pounds, and is currently the top-ranked player in the transfer portal according to On3.com, however, that will change as the portal will have tons of players entering soon.
McCulley seems like a perfect fit for the Michigan football offense. He could provide some immediate help at a position of need. Not only would he add experience (one year remaining), but he's the big body Michigan has lacked this season.
Amorion Walker is 6-foot-3 but is more of a deep threat. He hasn't turned into a reliable wide receiver just yet, even though there have been some moments. McCulley has had just one good season to his credit -- he also wasn't always a wide receiver.
Michigan reached out soon after he decided to enter the portal. He made sense then and makes even more sense with Bryce Underwood in the fold. With Derek Meadows now trending to Alabama, Michigan still needs a big wideout and with McCulley visiting this weekend after the Ohio State game, according to Pete Nakos of On3.com, a commitment might be coming soon.
