Michigan football is looking for help at the wide receiver position, and one name has begun to build a lot of traction. That name is Jaime Ffrench Jr, a 6'1 freshman receiver from Texas who entered the transfer portal. Despite Michigan not having much involvement in his recruitment out of high school, Michigan is currently viewed as the team to beat for Ffrench.

What would Jaime Ffrench mean for the Wolverines?

So what would this addition mean for Michigan? Well, it would give the Wolverines a very formidable option beyond Andrew Marsh. While Ffrench didn't see the field much at Texas, that can be attributed to the Longhorns having depth at the position. It's important to note that five-star freshman Kaliq Lockett, rated just above Ffrench as a prospect, didn't see much game action until the bowl game against Michigan. Ffrench's lack of play time was not due to a lack of talent.

Wide receiver is the biggest question mark for Michigan's offense next season. Just about every other position group seems to be in a good spot. The Wolverines know that they need to give Bryce Underwood more opportunities to succeed, which means giving him the best weapons available. Michigan has been aggressively looking at wide receivers in the transfer portal.

The addition of Ffrench would significantly increase the ceiling for Michigan football in 2026. Bryce Underwood displayed plenty of talent in 2025, but it was clear that a lack of playmakers, as well as improper coaching, held him back from reaching his ceiling. With Kyle Whittingham, a proven talent developer stepping in, Bryce Underwood should be positioned for a much better sophomore season.

Adding another playmaker to the offense in Ffrench would help take some of the pressure off of both Underwood and the run game. It's tough to not get excited thinking about how explosive the offense could be. With Ffrench set to visit Ann Arbor, it's imperative that Michigan earns his commitment while he's on campus.
