Michigan football's upset over Ohio State might be the sweetest of 4-0 stretch

There have been more important wins by Michigan football over Ohio State but few that tasted as sweet as Saturday's 13-10 shocker.

It is not an exaggeration or outlandish, to say that Michigan's defeat of Ohio State 13-10, outshines any recent Michigan football victory in this rivalry of the past few years.

After what many would deem, a disappointing season, no matter what bowl game the Wolverines play in, there is no sweeter victory than what occurred Saturday afternoon. Coming into THE GAME as a twenty-point underdog, against a team with playoff aspirations, the Michigan Wolverines struck a striking blow to Ryan Day and his tenure at Ohio State.

One of the unlikeliest heroes of the Michigan football season will prove to be Davis Warren. Once sidelined for Alex Orji and Jack Tuttle, Warren outlasted the carousel that was the Michigan quarterback room. His two interceptions and 9 for 16 passing attempts during the game serve as an injustice. His composure and resilience proved to be his most important value to this Wolverine team. Being the quarterback to lead the Wolverines to another victory in this rivalry, proved once again, who Warren is in the face of adversity.

Dominic Zvada. Remember that name, Ohio State fans. His game-clinching field goal of twenty-one yards was never really in doubt. The one from fifty-four yards in the second quarter was never really in doubt either. Maybe no player has proved to be more reliable for Michigan football than Zvada. Just ask Ohio State fans how important it is to have a trusted field goal kicker as they watched their kicker miss two field goals in reasonable range.

College football is on notice. Michigan football may have found the deadliest field goal kicker in the game. Thank you Arkansas State.

Michigan made a resounding statement on Saturday. Through it all, grit and determination can beat any talent advantage. Was it disrespectful for Michigan to try and plant the university flag in the middle of the field after the victory? Maybe. Was the ensuing on-field skirmish a bad look for the rivalry? Again, maybe. Will the Ohio State fanbase grow an ever bigger distaste for Michigan than they already had? That is almost certain.

But what ultimately is more impactful, is that after years of dominance, Michigan has the upper hand in this rivalry. That will keep Ohio State fans up at night. They will have 365 days to grow acceptance of what transpired on Saturday afternoon but for a few weeks, it will sting that the undermanned Wolverines came into Columbus and rode off into the Ohio sunset. Hopefully, Michigan flags won't pop up in random areas, just to antagonize them.

The defending national champions may be 7-5 but being 1-0 against the Ohio State Buckeyes outweighs an underwelming season. Planting the flag may have been an overzealous move but the message from the Michigan Wolverines was quite simple and reminiscent of one from the previous season. Michigan vs. Everybody
