If there is one recruit in the entire 2026 class that Michigan football really needed to get, it was Savion Hiter, who committed to the Wolverines on Tuesday.

The five-star running back is 5-foot-11, 200 pounds out of Mineral, Virginia. He's ranked No. 9 overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, and No. 1 among running backs. Hiter is the top-ranked running back via the Rivals Industry Rankings, too.

Watching his film and watching him dazzle with runs like this, it's hard to argue.

Steve Wiltfong, the most respected recruiting analyst in the business, said following Hiter's commitment to Michigan football that the Wolverines, "Maybe landed the best offensive player in the country. Just can't rank a RB, No. 1. They don't go No. 1 in the draft. But he's as good at his job as anyone in the country. Terrific prospect. Best RB in a few cycles."

Another scout for Rivals, Cody Bellaire, said the Hiter could be a "terror" for Michigan football.

“The sky is the limit for Hiter. He has all the physical and athletic ability under the sun to become an absolute terror at the next level and beyond.”

When it comes down to it, Michgan football might have landed the commitment of the single most impactful player in the entire 2026 class.

Hiter is being paired with a head coach in Sherrone Moore who wants to pound the rock. He'll be playing with a five-star quarterback in Bryce Underwood, and together, they could easily be the best QB/RB combo in college football.

Given how elite Michigan has been on defense for the past four years, that should be a scary thought for the rest of college football. Hell, it should terrify Michigan's Big Ten rivals, especially its main rival, Ohio State because if Michigan can recruit players like this, watch out.
