Michigan football is diving into the 2026 recruiting class head first. The Wolverines are being aggressive and trying to build on the momentum they ended the 2025 class with (which is still building). Michigan is set to have a relatively big weekend with a handful of visitors making their way to Ann Arbor.

Arguably the top target making their way to Ann Arbor this weekend is four star wide receiver Travis Johnson. It's no secret that Michigan is still in need of weapons at the wide receiver position. Johnson is a guy who could be a big time weapon in college. At 6'3, 165 lbs, Johnson needs to add some weight to truly make an impact in college, but he has the height and skills needed to be a big time player.

Michigan football is hitting Virginia hard in 2026, and Johnson is another top prospect that the Wolverines are hoping to take out of the state. The Wolverines seem to have a lot of momentum with Johnson so far. Sherrone Moore, Sean Magee, Tony Alford, and Chip Lindsey met with Johnson last week while making their way through Virginia.

Penn State is another school to watch here. Johnson recently visited the Nittany Lions and has visited multiple times. Although the Nittany Lions already have three wide receiver commits in their 2026 class, they have a shot here. Another school of interest is West Virginia, where Travis' brother plays. He's shown interest in the Mountaineers.

All in all, this visit will be very telling. Michigan football has a huge need for a receiver like Johnson and appears very willing to invest in him, as evidenced by GM Sean Magee visiting Johnson. The Wolverines appear to have some momentum here and could make a big move with a great visit this weekend. It wouldn't be shocking at all if QB Bryce Underwood spent some time with Johnson to alleviate some concerns about the lack of a passing game recently.

Johnson is a top target and is being treated as one. While I wouldn't expect Johnson to commit to Michigan over the weekend, you shouldn't rule out the Wolverines making a big move with him this weekend.
