Michigan Football Recruiting: Top Linebacker Commits to Wolverines
Michigan football earned a big win on early National Signing Day by securing the commitment of linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng. Owusu-Boateng is a recruit that Michigan had at the top of their list at the linebacker position all cycle long. The Wolverines were able to beat out Ohio State, USC, Notre Dame, and Colorado for the elite linebacker out of IMG Academy in Florida.
This recruitment came down to the wire. All cycle long, it was clear that Michigan football was in the upper tier of schools that Owusu-Boateng was considering. Throughout the process, however, it seemed like other teams could dethrone the Wolverines - Notre Dame in particular due to family ties.
A huge recruiting win for Michigan football
Ultimately, it came down to Michigan football and Colorado. This was a recruitment that truly seemed 50-50 until late last night when some predictions came in for Michigan. This is a very important win for the Wolverines, as Chase Taylor was the only committed linebacker in the class. With Michigan's lack of depth at the linebacker position, Owusu-Boateng is a huge win for the Wolverines.
With his commitment, the Wolverines are up to 7th in the recruiting rankings, sitting just behind Auburn. Thus far, the early signing period has been good to Michigan. The Wolverines picked up the commitments of Owusu-Boateng, along with defensive lineman Travis Moten. That was on the heels of the Wolverines flipped Nate Marshall, a top-100 defensive lineman earlier this week.
We'll see if there's any more action.
