Michigan football could use another offensive tackle and they are actively trying to add one, but the Wolverines also lost another to the transfer portal on Wednesday

Jeffrey Persi, who has three career starts under his belt for Michigan football will enter the transfer portal as a graduate transfer according to Pete Nakos of On3.com.

Persi has played in 38 career games for Michigan football includng 15 in the 2023 season. He competed for the starting right tackle job last season that went to Evan Link. Persi wasn't expected to start next season for the Wolverines but he could have been a veteran backup.

Depth is always important. We saw that last season. Yet, it was probably telling that in the ReliaQuest Bowl Persi didn't start the game. Andrew Sprague has passed him on the depth chart, just like Link did last season.

Link struggled at right tackle last season and had some rough moments against Alabama during the bowl game. If was worth wondering if Persi would get into the mix this offseason but we have the answer now as Persi has entered the portal.

Michigan football pushing to add offensive tackle from the portal

Shiyazh Pete is one of the top offensive tackles available in the transfer portal. Pete played over 1,700 snaps at left tackle for New Mexico State and was an all-conference player in 2023.

Michigan football is one of the teams in the mix. Nebraska and Kentucky are too, but if the Wolverines added Pete, offensive tackle would be much less concerning.
