Michigan football losing Jadyn Davis would echo the sad reality of college football

When Jadyn Davis committed to Michigan football, I thought of him as the heir to the throne after JJ McCarthy. Not only did that turn out to not be the case, but rumors are also now swirling that the redshirt freshman QB could transfer in the spring portal.

While nothing is set in stone, the Michigan football depth chart doesn't look promising for the young quarterback. Mikey Keene and Bryce Underwood look to compete for the starting spot, while Davis couldn't surpass Davis Warren on the depth chart last year. There's a very likely reality where JD could be 4th on the depth chart with no likely future as the starter.

It seems unlikely that Jadyn Davis would be willing to wait his turn

If Bryce Underwood were to enter the draft after his junior year (and presumably wins the starting job), it wouldn't be until Davis's senior year that he would have a chance at starting. No quarterback this day in age is willing to wait until their senior year to start, especially as a Top 10 QB out of high school. This is what the modern age of college football has come to.

Quarterbacks, or players in general, are no longer willing to wait their turn. It's no longer about The Team, The Team, The Team. Now, Jadyn Davis could shock the world and stay and compete or get his education. That would echo the likes of a true Michigan Man and shun the modern tendencies to be scared of competition.

To be clear, from an athlete's perspective I can totally see why they would want to move on when there doesn't look to be a bright future. But the part about college football that I grew up loving was when you committed to a team or made the roster, you stuck with that team to the very end. That is what I miss about college football and miss seeing from our own players.

No matter what decision Davis makes this spring, we, as Michigan football fans, should always cheer him on and wish him the best. As the saying goes, once a Michigan man, always a Michigan man.
