Michigan football has been looking to add offensive line help from the transfer portal and the Wolverines picked up an offensive tackle commitment on Sunday in former Ferris State offensive tackle Lawrence Hattar.

The 6-foot-5, 330-pounder was a D-2 All-American last season. His transfer wasn't really on the radar but Michigan football missed on offensive tackle target Fa'alili Fa'amoe, who committed to Wake Forest.
The commitment of Hattar comes one day after. He has been a stellar player for Ferris State and a three-time national champion. It's hard to say if the Wolverines are planning on playing him at tackle or moving him inside, but both of their offensive line additions have come from the FCS or the lower.
That doesn't mean those players won't be successful. Hatter, who has one season of eligibility was a First-Team All-American in 2024.
During the ReliaQuest Bowl, Michigan football started Evan Link and Andrew Sprague at offensive tackle. Two of the three interior players are expected to return next season too in Giovanni El-Hadi and Greg Crippen.
El-Hadi hasn't said for sure that he will be back, as Crippen did recently. But the expectation is that he will return. Hattar could play tackle or guard for the Wolverines. That's speculation but unless they view him as the starting left tackle, or a swing tackle, giving him a shot inside could make sense, depending on what they do with Link.
I'd like to see Link play guard. I'd also like to see the Wolverines land a proven left tackle from the portal. Hattar is a nice addition but is he ready to be the blindside protector for Bryce Underwood?
That remains to be seen.
