Michigan football got some tremendous recruiting news with the commitment of five-star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola. Ranked as the #11 player in the nation, Babalola is a huge win for the Wolverines and is their first five-star recruit since Will Johnson committed in the 2022 class.
"Playing on the big stage of Michigan one of the more tradition-rich schools in the country," Babalola said to Steve Wiltfong of On3.com. "I can’t wait to get in with the guys and turn this thing around."
For a majority of this recruitment, the Wolverines appeared to be just out of first place. Stanford was the perceived leader for most of the recruitment, and Auburn also burst onto the scene. But in the end, Michigan football was the most consistent with Babalola. Michigan's combination of athletics and academics was the difference maker with Babalola.
Andrew Babalola's commitment is huge for Michigan football
It really can't be understated how important this commitment is. With the Wolverines sitting at 4-3 and Sherrone Moore facing tons of criticism, this was a much needed righting of the ship. With Babalola in the class, other recruits should feel more confident, and the Wolverines will have some momentum. From here, it'll be interesting to see what other dominoes fall.
It has been rumored that Michigan is starting to take NIL seriously with their on the field struggles. While Babalola's recruitment wasn't decided by money, it's going to be interesting to see if Michigan does spend more on the trail. And if so, who else can the Wolverines land?
Michigan finally has some much needed momentum in the football department. Let's hope this only continues to grow. Go blue!
