There were reports that Michigan football would be aggressive in the transfer portal this spring, but so far, those have proven to be inaccurate.
The Michigan Wolverines did add a punter, which was a position of need. Special teams are an important part of the game, especially when relying on the defense to win. Field position and the kicking game are vital.
So, landing one of the best punters in the transfer portal was a good move. However, Michigan football did nothing else. At least the Wolverines haven't so far.

That could change. Yet, after Aiden Sen of the Maize and Blue Review reported that Michigan football was no longer in the mix for transfer portal cornerback Brian Nelson from North Texas, it's starting to feel like the roster is what it is.
Michigan football sniffed around some cornerbacks, just like they poked around the offensive tackle and wide receiver markets, but the Wolverines never got serious about anyone.
Michigan didn't want to overpay for players in the spring window. Maybe it should have. Joe Cotton, who ended up at Cincinnati, would have been an upgrade at left tackle.
Penn State was willing to pay the price for Trebor Pena from Syracuse, and we'll see if not pursuing another wideout is something the Wolverines regret.
Internal development will be critical. Cornerbacks, wide receivers, and offensive tackles need to step up. Michigan football might look back and regret not being more aggressive in the portal.
Things can always change but for now, it feels like the 2025 Michigan football roster is set.
