When former Michigan football recruit Rocco Spindler entered the transfer portal recently, it felt like a match made in heaven.
However, there were some holdups. According to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider, Spindler wouldn't be able to take part in spring ball for the Wolverines.
As such, it's not a huge surprise to see Nebraska trending as the favorite after his visit to Lincoln on Tuesday. The Huskers have been after offensive line help too and have been aggressive with NIL.
Spindler would be able to enroll and take part in spring ball at Nebraska. EJ Holland of The Wolverine.com and Bryan Munson of Husker Online have projected Spindler to commit to the Huskers.
Not all is lost for Michigan football though. Another Notre Dame transfer, center/guard Pat Coogan, will visit Michigan this weekend according to Josh Henschke.
Michigan football in a good spot for Pat Coogan
Coogan had a similar story to Spindler. He didn't open the season as the starter but came in and played well, eventually taking over the starting center job.
Coogan held down the job for the last 13 games. He's a great leader and could have been a team captain. Yet, there wasn't a guarantee that he would start. Coogan has played center and guard, which would give him the chance to play at multiple spots for the Wolverines.
Greg Crippen started down the stretch for Michigan football last season but didn't win the job coming out of fall camp. The center position could be an upgrade and Coogan could be that.
He seems better as a center than a guard, but if Crippen was able to beat him out, Coogan could compete with fellow transfer Lawrence Hattar for the starting guard job along with other holdovers, potentially even Evan Link if the Wolverines are able to add a starting tackle at some point in the portal.
Coogan would be a major pickup though. However, Ole Miss and some other SEC programs have expressed interest. It would be in the best interest of U-M to lock down a commitment this weekend.
