Michigan Football: 3 overreactions from the Northwestern win
By Nick Popio
3. Bowl eligibility is pointless this season
Following a national championship season the last thing you want to do is finish with a losing record and that can still happen to the Wolverines in 2024. They did not exceed expectations and have nothing to play for anymore. That's what the cynical fan, who is always negative, would say to gain some attention to their profile.
Looking on the opposite side of things, Michigan football is improving slower than we want, but still has something that matters to them next Saturday in the shoe. That makes this an overreaction. Michigan can keep the Buckeyes out of the Big Ten championship game and secure some more five-star prospects in the process.
Ask any Michigan football fan what is the one thing you want to see them do every year and nine out of ten times they would probably answer you: Beat Ohio State.
It wouldn't make the season an overwhelming success, but it would all but ruin Ohio State's chances of winning it all, instead of hoping an SEC school or Oregon can beat them one or two more times. Besides the Buckeyes can't cry that Michigan is cheating this year if they go in to Columbus and do the unthinkable.
