The Michigan Wolverines have had good luck with player retention, and it seems like they are close to securing another player for the 2026 season.

Enow Etta entered the transfer portal during the first week that it was open. It seemed like the 6-foot-5, 320-pound defensive tackle would end up somewhere else.

There have been plenty of teams pushing for Etta, who played in 13 games this season and 23 overall over the past two years with 20 total tackles, three tackles for loss, and one sack. Etta, who is ranked as the No. 12 defensive lineman available in the transfer portal (107th overall), is now considered "likely" to return to the Wolverines, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.

"It’s considered likely that Michigan defensive lineman Enow Etta will end up withdrawing his name from the transfer portal and remaining with the Wolverines, sources tell me and Chris Hummer," Zenitz wrote on X.

Return of Enow Etta would be massive for Michigan football D-line

Michigan got some good news on the defensive line on Wednesday, as one of its transfers was officially announced with the Wolverines, after there was some concern with admissions. That's been resolved now, and Jonah Lea'ea will come on board as the No. 40 defensive linemen available in the portal.

The return of Etta essentially allows Michigan to add a top-40 player at the position, while keeping two others. Trey Pierce appears to be staying after his brother just committed out of the portal, and if Etta really does stay, as is "likely" to happen, that's huge for Michigan.

The defensive lineman's best football is in front of him.
