Michigan's defensive line has the potential to be the best in the country, and that is how they are choosing to view themselves.

In 2024, the Michigan defense completely outshone the offense and honestly kept them in most of their games. Now going into 2025, the Wolverines' defense is looking elite again, and they certainly know it.

Michigan defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny is entering his fifth year at Michigan, and with his college career coming to an end soon, he has one goal in mind for the defensive line. When joining Jon Jensen on his podcast In the Trenches, Benny talked about going into his final season and what the defensive line wants out of the year.

"My goal for the defensive line: We want to be the best defensive line in the country," Benny said. "Fewest rushing yards allowed, we're trying to have a sack party in the backfield."

In 2024, Michigan ranked fifth in the nation, allowing just 90.7 rushing yards a game, but they are already setting the bar even higher for this upcoming season.

Benny is coming into his final season feeling the best he ever has at Michigan. Working hard in the offseason, Benny is coming in at his highest weight and feeling his best. There is a lot to hope for when looking at this defensive line this upcoming season.

Of course, everyone is anxiously awaiting to see what the offense is going to look like for Michigan this season after the downfall last season and now the coming of No. 1 overall quarterback adn five-star recruit Bryce Underwood. With so much uncertainty in the quarterback room, which in turn turns into so much unknown with the offense, the defense can be the anchor for this team.

If Michigan doesn't have to worry about the defense and takes pressure off of the offense, then Benny feels like they have done their job. As the old saying goes, defense wins championships, and Michigan is looking for its next one this season.
