Michigan basketball trending to land 5-star recruit Trey McKenney
It's been a good week for Michigan basketball on the recruiting trail and before long, things are about to get even better.
Dusty May, the first-year Michigan basketball head coach, landed two top-100 caliber prospects in Winters Grady, a 6-foot-5 wing who is one of the best shooters in the 2025 class. On Wednesday morning, U-M followed it up by getting the commitment of 6-foot-7 forward Oscar Goodman who was described by one analyst as essentially a rugby player with basketball skills.
Goodman and Grady feel like they could be productive multi-year players for the Wolverines with a chance to develop into a pro down the line. Those are the kinds of players you can win championships with eventually.
Michigan basketball trending for a five-star recruit
The same can be said about five-star combo guard Trey McKenney. Out of Flint, Michigan, the 6-foot-4, 225-pound guard is ranked No. 20 overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
A decision is expected to come on November 9th. The Wolverines are battling Georgetown and USC for his commitment but Joe Tipton of On3.com and several Michigan experts for The Wolverine.com, including Chris Balas have projected McKenney's commitment to Michigan basketball.
McKenney would be the first five-star prospect to commit since Caleb Houstan. Having a guard with that kind of ability would be huge for May, who wants to play with multiple point-guard types. LJ Cason, Durral Brooks, and Justin Pippen are all guards from the 2024 class.
May has landed Grady, another guard, and if it all goes to plan, he should be adding another guard commitment on November 9th.
