Pinch yourselves, Michigan basketball fans. You aren't dreaming.
For the first time, both Michigan basketball teams are ranked inside the top 10 of the AP poll. Following a 3-0 start that includes wins over TCU and Wake Forest, the men's basketball team is ranked seventh this week in the latest AP poll, dropping one spot.
The Wolverines women's basketball team jumped up eight spots this week, after a dominating win over Notre Dame. Michigan women's basketball got revenge on the Irish for them knocking the Wolverines out of the NCAA tournament last March.
This time around, it wasn't even close. Michigan won the game 93-54. Even more impressive is the fact that the Wolverines held Hannah Hidalgo, one of the top scorers in women's college basketball, to a 4-of-21 shooting performance. She was also 0-for-8 from 3-point range, too, as Michigan embarrassed the 18th-ranked team.
A golden era for Michigan basketball
Kim Barnes Arico has done an incredible job. She was the head coach back in 2022, when the Wolverines were last ranked sixth. They advanced to the Elite 8 that season.
What makes this team quite possibly the most exciting in Michigan women's basketball history is that the top three players, including two All-Big Ten performers last season, are just sophomores.
Olivia Olson dominated Notre Dame with 21 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Mila Holloway scored 12 points and had five rebounds, while being a terror on defense. Syla Swords is elite, too.
Michigan is the second-highest-ranked team in the Big Ten in both men's and women's basketball. Dusty May's squad is the one talked about as being capable of winning a national championship, but it's time to start having that conversation about the women, too. At least the Final Four.
There's a long way to go. Both teams are 3-0. But it's a great time to be a Michigan basketball fan. One might even say it's a golden era.
