Michigan Basketball: 3 takeaways from the extermination of Xavier
By Nick Popio
3. This is a declaration type win for Dusty May
Through seven games last year, Michigan basketball had three losses and started 4-5. This year they might be ranked with a reverberating win heard around the college basketball landscape. Xavier was unbeaten coming in and holds a victory over Michigan's lone loss in 2024. Dusty May's Wolverines obliterated them in 40 minutes.
Michigan basketball already has as many ranked wins as they did in Juwan Howard's failing last year. That win came against Wisconsin, which coincidentally is next Tuesday's opponent on Peacock. May has Michigan believing they can contend in the Big Ten and if they can vanquish the Badgers, then the expectations will rise expeditiously.
This pieced together group, that May directed, is a bucket away from being one of the three undefeated teams left in the Big Ten. I don't think anyone could have predicted that after the first month of the season. May should receive some votes for coach of the year if he keeps winning at this pace.
