Michigan Basketball: 3 takeaways from a vigorous win over Virginia Tech
By Nick Popio
2. The maize and blue shot twice as many three pointers as Virginia Tech did
34 trifectas to be exact, while the Hokies put up half that. Michigan basketball also doubled them up in successful shots from beyond the arc. The Wolverines hit 10 and Virginia Tech only made four. Both were under 30% from deep in the contest. 34 threes is the most the Wolverines have attempted through six games, but it wasn't their worst shooting percentage from distance, that came against Tarleton State.
Nimari Burnett was Michigan's best 3-point architect. He was 50% from there and nailed all of them in the first half. Those were the only points he accounted for in the victory. Two Hokies were perfect from three, but they were the lone attempts for both of those players. Jaydon Young recorded a pair on six attempts from out there.
The trio of Wolverines who came off the bench and scored, each connected on a long shot to pad their stats. Besides Roddy Gayle Jr. no other Wolverine, except Will Tschetter, had more than 10 points. Sam Walter went scoreless for the first time in 2024. As for Vlad Goldin, he was impactful on both ends of the court.
