Kyle Whittingham's delusions are getting worse with each week at Michigan

Apparently, Kyle Whittingham doesn't think Michigan has much to fix after barely beating one of the worst teams in the Big Ten.

Either Kyle Whittingham's age is getting to him, or he simply doesn't see what is happening on the field for Michigan after every single game. Either way, Whittingham can't seem to make an accurate assessment of how his team is truly playing; just look at how he spoke about the Wolverines after a narrow 28-21 win over Rutgers. If you find yourself pretty dang upset, you're not alone here.

"They're playing their tails off. They've played outstanding from the first game on all the way through." Whittingham said postgame. "There's not a ton to improve on, but there's enough."

Granted, Whittingham might have been talking a bit more about the defensive performance today, but saying there isn't much to improve on after allowing 21 points to one of the worst teams in the Big Ten is crazy. Also, this team looks as discombobulated as ever, not able to play complementary football in the slightest. Where is the consistency for the Wolverines on both sides of the ball?

This was not a good game by Michigan, honestly. Sure, the offense looked better, but the fact that Rutgers allowed an average of over 30 points per game to opposing offenses, and Michigan couldn't even reach that feat is still concerning. There was simply no reason for this to be such a close game, too.

Kyle Whittingham just looks like he doesn't have the passion for coaching anymore

It may not have been a good win, but the way Whittingham has spoken after both wins and losses this season as a whole is telling. There has been no fire in Whittingham or in much of his staff, except probably the defensive coaches. That's something that Michigan fans are tired of seeing.

After big wins, Whittingham doesn't show a lot of emotion; after tough losses, he simply talks about how good this team really is, when in reality, they are one of the worst offenses in the country, being carried by an elite defense that is being wasted every week.

Whittingham has been in the coaching game for a while, and with this being his first year outside of Utah, it looks like that fire has dimmed greatly. Maybe it is simply the fact that Michigan isn't playing well and he is trying to make light of a dark situation, or it might be time to hang up the whistle.

Every week, Whittingham makes a comment about how Michigan is playing that just leaves people scratching their heads. Whether it was last week after the loss to Indiana and he said Michigan is really good to have stayed up with that team when the offense only mustered six points, or saying this week that there isn't much to improve on.

The Whittingham experiment has not worked out well for the Wolverines, and if he won't step down, Michigan might have to look into making a change of its own because it is hard to believe it will get any better than this.
