Michigan football is an attractive job, but one reason Kyle Whittingham took it was Bryce Underwood.
With all the resources and the talent that Michigan has on the roster, or has the ability to acquire, a great quarterback could give the Wolverines a legitimate shot at a national championship.
Bryce Underwood can be that quarterback. Last season, he showed flashes. He also showed that there is plenty of room to grow, but on Thursday, Kyle Whittingham revealed why Michigan fans should expect Bryce Underwood to deliver on his five-star potential.
Why Bryce Underwood will become great for Michigan football
"He's just got a burning desire to be great, and that's what you need in a quarterback."

"He's just got a burning desire to be great, and that's what you need in a quarterback," Whittingham said to the Big Ten Network ahead of Saturday's spring game.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound quarterback has all the tools to be great. He was ranked No. 1 overall in the 2025 recruiting class. Last season. he was thrust into the starting lineup. He accounted for 17 total touchdowns and averaged 218 yards per game between rushing and passing yards.
Underwood's development will be critical to the Wolverines' success this season. If he takes a leap forward, as plenty of people are predicting that he will, Michigan should be a contender for the Big Ten title, or at least in the College Football Playoff.
Whittingham has praised Underwood throughout the spring. Having a dedicated quarterbacks coach will help. Koy Detmer Jr. seems like a tremendous coach. It's unclear if we will see Underwood on Saturday. Whittngham said the spring game will mostly be about young players, but we'll see.
Either way, it feels like things with Underwood are trending in a really positive direction.
