June 1st is closing in, and that means the return of Michigan football's most important transfer product from Utah. Barring any setbacks, John Henry Daley is set to be 100% from his injury that he suffered last season and is ready to go full throttle as he prepares for the fall gauntlet as Michigan's primary edge rusher in 2026.
Without Daley in the spring game, the pass rush was making some strides, but once he gets clearance, Henry Daley will raise everyone's level of play along that line quickly. No other returning rusher has more than one sack to their credit, while Henry Daley had more than everyone combined. He could be Michigan's first double-digit sack master since the legendary Aidan Hutchinson and Davis Ojabo.
Henry Daley has All-American credentials
There's reason to believe that he'll be Michigan's best player on defense as soon as he lines up because of those gaudy numbers he put up in 2025. Defensive coordinator Jay Hill coached a guy who is somewhat similar to him at BYU. Sixth round draft pick of the New York Giants, Jack Kelly racked up 15 sacks in his final two years at BYU under the mentorship of Hill. Henry Daley is widely considered to be a better prospect than Kelly coming out of college, so the upside is evident.
At Utah, Henry Daley was ranked fourth in the country in pressure rate. He managed to record three multiple sacks games in 11 tries and would have had more if he didn't get injured. For Michigan, he'll see double teams weekly, which could lead to a breakout for someone else in the trenches too.
Just a week ago Brice Marich posted a short video of him working out and there were no side effects. Should things go according to plan, then Henry Daley would be on pace to be in contention for the next Ted Hendricks Award winner. Just imagine where Michigan would be without him if he didn't transfer in.
