Jeremiah Smith’s team goals prove Michigan lives rent-free in his head

If you ask any Michigan fans what the biggest game of the football season is, without a doubt, the answer is Ohio State. The Game is always at the forefront of the minds of Michigan and Ohio State, and as we have seen, it can get pretty heated, especially when flags are involved.

It doesn't matter what time of the year it is, whether it is football season, summertime, or just a random Tuesday in April, the hatred between Michigan and Ohio State is strong. So, whoever wins The Game at the end of every football season gets bragging rights for a full year and uses them to the fullest extent.

Well, with a new football season on the horizon, the Buckeyes' bragging rights are about to expire as the two teams will meet the final weekend of the regular season, as they always do, and battle it out again. For Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, he has his goals for the season, and honestly, they look a little out of order if you ask me.

When listing the team's goals he wants to see Ohio State accomplish this season, the first thing he said was beating Michigan, then winning a Big Ten Championship, then a National Championship. Yes, in chronological order, that is how it goes, but some would think a National Championship is more important than anything else, but apparently not to Smith and the Buckeyes.

Julian Sayin echoes Jeremiah Smith's team goals proving these guys can't get Michigan out of their heads

Smith isn't the only Buckeye putting team goals in that order, as quarterback Julian Sayin echoed the exact sentiment at Big Ten Media Days on Wednesday. If you ask me, Michigan is constantly swimming around in these guys' heads and hasn't paid rent for a long time.

While Michigan fans have to endure the fact that Ohio State took home the win in The Game last year, it's a clean slate this season. Of course, Michigan wants to win The Game, but if I were a betting person, I'd say that if you ask the players whether they would want a National Championship or beat Ohio State, that natty would be too hard to turn down.

It just feels like the priorities for these Ohio State guys are out of order. The Buckeyes haven't won a Big Ten Championship since 2020, and even got beat out by Indiana last season when they had a chance to break that streak. Maybe if the players focused a bit more on those big games, they would be able to succeed a bit more.

The Game won't look the same this year with a new coaching staff on the Michigan sideline, and the Wolverines will bring everything they have to take down Ohio State on their own field.
