Michigan offensive coordinator Jason Beck has been in some hot water after the awful offensive performance by the Wolverines against Minnesota in Week 5. This comes after the offense has looked sluggish and not performed well up to this point in the season, but Beck's answer to the problem is as obvious as the Pope being Catholic.

Even on the bye week, Michigan players spoke with the media, and JJ Buchanan got his chance in front of the cameras. When asked about what Beck's message was to the offense after the Minnesota loss, Buchanan's answer might actually make you double over with laughter.

Beck's message to the offense was that they need to "do a little bit more" after the loss to Minnesota. Are you serious? That is it? Um, yeah, of course the offense needs to do more, when the defense scored as much as they did against the Golden Gophers. Beck isn't really making himself look good with a message like that.

Jason Beck needs to find a better answer the Michigan's offensive problems

I am still dumbfounded at the fact that Beck's message to the offense was to do a little more. He probably said more than just that, but clearly that is what stuck with the players, since that is all that Buchanan shared with the media. Sure, they don't want to give everything away, but Beck's answer is so obvious; even a football novice could have come up with it.

Honestly, Michigan's offense needs to do more than just a little bit better if they want even the slightest chance of winning out the rest of the season and making the College Football Playoff. With two losses on the season, Michigan's margin of error just became razor-thin, which means the offense really needs to step it up.

The Wolverines' offense is averaging 23 points per game, and it would be worse if it weren't for the 52-point game Michigan put up against UTEP. Take away that game, and Michigan averages just 15.8 points per game, which is not a good look for an offense that was praised all offseason by the coaching staff.

Fingers can be pointed at quarterback Bryce Underwood, or the run game, or the offensive line, but really, when it comes to the offensive struggles, that sits squarely on Beck's shoulders, and the best he could come up with was "be a little better."

Michigan might be in bigger trouble than anyone thought if that is the best advice their offensive coordinator could muster for a team that is barely averaging over three touchdowns a game. The Michigan defense has carried this team all offseason, but it can only do that for so long; just look at the Iowa and Minnesota games as evidence of that.
