J.J. McCarthy's NFL career has been nothing like he probably hoped it would be since leaving the comfort of Michigan and a National Championship. His first season was over, really, before it even began, with a knee injury that took him out of his rookie year. Then in year two, he was able to start for a little over half the season before dealing with a high ankle sprain.
This is McCarthy's team; he was drafted to be the next quarterback for the Vikings, and injuries have unfortunately kept him down. However, the Vikings knew they needed another quarterback and decided to go out and get former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.
When asked how the relationship between the two has been, Murray and McCarthy could not have had more different answers. Murray believes it's like the Toda to McCarthy's Luke Skywalker, and McCarthy is reating Murray like the kid who eats paste on the other side of the classroom.

Not exactly the same answer... 😬pic.twitter.com/USHh3q0G3u
Clearly, there is a disconnect somewhere, and it sounds like Murray is trying to make a situation sound better than it really is. There is no need for McCarthy to sugarcoat things, as this is his team and his locker room, and he isn't going to just give that up.
McCarthy is being slammed for his comments about Murray, especially when the former Oklahoma quarterback made things sound all warma nd fuzzy.
J.J. McCarthy isn't going to give up the Minnesota Vikings locker room that easily
McCarthy has given a lot as the Minnesota Vikings quarterback, and has earned the right to be the starter. It makes sense that the Vikings wanted depth at the position, as when McCarthy went down last season, backup Carson Wentz went 2-3, putting the Vikings behind in the postseason race.
When McCarthy came back, though, he struggled, but found a footing, even finished the season with four straight wins before dealing with a fracture in his thumb on his throwing hand. The Vikings missed the postseason, but McCarthy is ready to return and bring this team back to playoff football.
Murray certainly has had his time of success in the NFL, but in recent years, the success has been minimal, injuries have been great, and wins have been nearly non-existent. This is McCarthy's locker room, and Murray is going to have to work hard to try to take it from the former Michigan star.
Head coach Kevin O'Connell had to have the quarterback battle, but it seems like McCarthy is focusing on winning that rather than learning from Murray, or being buddies even in the slightest.
