Despite a 47-9 win for the Detroit Lions over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, in one of the worst home defeats in the history of the Cowboys, there was a hollow feeling of sorts as Michigan football legend Aidan Hutchinson suffered a horrific injury.

On a pass rush to try and get to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, Hutchinson collided with another player, and his leg was clearly broken. Here's a link to the video but I wouldn't recommend watching. It's one of the worst injuries I've ever seen.

It's also heartbreaking for fans of the Lions and of Michigan football. Much of the time, those fanbases overlap. Hutch is the hometown hero and while I have no doubt that he'll come back from this injury, it just feels so unfair.

Detroit dominated Dallas on Sunday. The Lions looked like a Super Bowl contender as they moved the ball up and down the field on the Cowboys. They are still going to be a contender but after Hutchinson suffered a fractured tibia that will keep him out for the rest of the season according to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz. The Lions will have to look elsewhere.

That's a brutal blow for Hutchinson and the Lions who made it to the NFC championship game last season and felt like they were on the brink of getting back to that or at least close.

Hutchinson has 28.5 sacks so far in his NFL career but the Michigan football legend who finished second in the Heisman race in 2021 has 7.5 sacks already this season, plus seven tackles for loss.

Hutchinson is one of the best players in the NFL and his injury is going to leave a huge void on the Lions defense.
