Former Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore stood in a courtroom in January of 2026, a month after being fired by the University, stating he had violated his contract due to his relationship with staffer Paige Shiver. Immediately after being fired, Moore then went to Shiver's house and threatened to harm himself due to the claims Shiver made that reportedly got him fired.
Moore was later arrested in a church parking lot after his wife called the police, concerned he was a threat to himself. Moore never denied the relationship to the police, as seen on bodycam footage, but he did deny that he broke into Shiver's apartment and threatened her.
In March, Moore pleaded no contest to trespassing and malicious use of a telecommunications device involving a domestic relationship, and with that plea, the more serious charges, including a felony, were dropped. Moore was sentenced to 18 months' probation and is barred from having any contact with Shiver.
Shiver recently had an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America" and shared her side of the story, as well as calling out the University of Michigan for how the entire situation was handled.
Paige Shiver felt the Michigan Athletic Department didn't do enough to protect her
In her interview with ABC's "Good Morning America,' Paige Shiver called her relationship with Moore an "open secret" within the athletic department. While the consensual relationship began in 2022 when Shiver was an intern at Michigan, and Moore was the offensive coordinator, Shiver felt many times she couldn't end things due to Moore using manipulation tactics.
When Moore was elevated to the head coaching position after the departure of Jim Harbaugh, Shiver was also elevated to an executive assistant role. She claimed that during their relationship, she was used to console Moore and calm him down, sometimes even during halftime of games. Shiver felt she had to go along with it as she feared for her job security.
Shiver believes that Moore should have been given a more severe punishment for what he did, including going to jail. ABC News released a statement given to them by Michigan that stated:
"The University of Michigan terminated Sherrone Moore promptly upon discovering his undisclosed workplace relationship with a direct report. His conduct violated university policy, and we expect more from our leaders. The University of Michigan is committed to ensuring a professional and respectful workplace for all members of its community."
Shiver said she felt as though Michigan was more worried about protecting Moore and didn't trust the process of what would happen if she disclosed the relationship that both Moore and she denied when asked about it in the fall during an investigation into the two of them.
"They knew the things that he was doing to me, and no one did anything about it because they cared more about winning football games, not having another scandal, and trying to protect the head coach," Shiver said.
Shiver said that during her relationship with Moore in 2022, she became pregnant, but was told by her doctor that due to health reasons, she couldn't continue the pregnancy.
Shiver's contract with Michigan has not been renewed this offseason at this point.
