Before the Maize and Blue game even kicked off on Saturday for the Michigan Wolverines, many players entered the transfer portal, including former 3-star international recruit Aymeric Koumba.

Koumba is a native of France who committed to Michigan back in 2023, but has only appeared in two games for the Wolverines in his two seasons at Michigan. The loss of Koumba is a bit of a hit to the Michigan defensive line depth, but it seems that after the play of the defensive ends in the spring game, the Wolverines should be just fine at the position.

Koumba was quick in deciding where he would go next after entering the transfer portal. The soon-to-be junior EDGE rusher has transferred and signed with the UCF Knights down in Orlando, Florida. The France native will see if the grass is greener on the other side in a warmer climate and playing in the Big 12.

In the two games that Koumba appeared in for Michigan, he did not record any stats, but his experience in the program this season could have earned him more playing time. Instead, Koumba has decided to move on, and Michigan fans were able to see who would take his place in the Maize and Blue game.

It seems as though Derrick Moore and TJ Guy will be the two starting EDGE rushers for the Wolverines in 2025, but Michigan fans were able to get a sneak peek at who is waiting in the wings. Both Lugard Edokpayi and Devon Baxter played well in front of the crowd on Saturday and could get some elevated playing time in 2025.

While losing Koumba means Michigan takes a hit in its depth on the defensive line, it seems the EDGE position is wrapped up nicely for the Wolverines, which could have led to his choice to transfer.
