It feels like everyone connected to women's college basketball is talking about Syla Swords and the Michigan Wolverines.
And they are doing it after a loss, a 72-69 heartbreaker for the Wolverines that saw Swords score nine points in the last minute as Michigan nearly pulled off an incredible comeback over UConn on Friday night.
Michigan spotted the No. 1 team in women's college basketball a 22-5 lead after the first quarter. Michigan trailed by 18 at the half. However, Swords and Olivia Olson started to get hot.
The Wolverines outscored UConn 18-4 in the third quarter, cutting the lead to four. Swords made a frantic push at the end. Yet, even though it wasn't enough, Swords turned some heads with 29 points, nine rebounds and three assists. She was also 8-of-14 from beyond the arc.

Nothing else needed to be said. Swords was stellar last season as a freshman, earning All-Big Ten honors just like Olson. However, Swords might be one of the best players in women's college basketball, just like Michigan is one of the best teams.
After dominating Notre Dame, a ranked team last week, 93-54, the Wolverines, ranked sixth, seem like a true Final Four contender after their showing against UConn. It's early but Michigan proved it can play with anyone, which is exciting heading into the Big Ten season, and as much attention as Swords got on social media, the Wolverines got just as much as a team.

Wow. What a game! @umichwbball falls just short against #1 @UConnWBB but a huge shoutout to @KBA_GoBlue and what she’s built in AA. This team is legit! #goblue

This is the best team UConn will face all year until the tournament.

Hard not to feel really, really good about the direction of the @umichwbball program. Hard to handicap yourself against the No. 1 team in America w/ the start that Michigan had today. But the Wolverines 100% outplayed wbb's bluest of Blue Bloods for the final 3 quarters tonight. https://t.co/bhXuMBXupa
