One of the best to ever do it is hanging up his headgear after Week 1 of the 2025 college football season. Lee Corso, who has been picking college football games for 38 seasons now, is officially retiring this next season, but he has one last game to pick.

Corso will be at the desk one final time in his career in Week 1 of the 2025 college football season. While it is unknown exactly which game the team will be at, there are many speculations on who the final headgear pick will be for Corso's long and legendary career.

Lee Corso set to retire after Week 1 of the 2025 college football season

Corso began picking college football games back in 1987 when the College Gameday show began. For almost 40 years, Corso has been at the desk towards the end of the show with fans wondering and hoping he will pick their team's headgear. With him turning 90 in August, Corso has officially decided to hang his headgear up.

When Croso started with the show, he didn't always do his headgear picks, which came in October of 1995. Unfortunately for Michigan fans, his first-ever headgear pick was Brutus the Buckeye for Ohio State. Since that first selection, Corso has had 430 headgear selections adn gone 286-144 with those selections, giving him quite the winning record.

Corso won't only be remembered for his headgear picks, but also for famously consistently holding a yellow No. 2 pencil throughout the show. His "not so fast" catchphrase will also be remembered whenever he didn't agree with a. celebrity picker's pick for a certain game.

Even though Corso loves picking Ohio State and the Brutus headgear, he is still a fan of picking Michigan. In his 430 headgear selections, Corso selected the Michigan Wolverines 30 times, and the Wolverines went 20-10 when being picked. The first time he ever selected the Wolverines, putting on the famous Michigan Wolverine helmet, was in 1997.

The best to ever do it is choosing to retire, and the college football world extends its great thanks and gratitude for everything Corso has done for the sport in his time.
