I played a quick game of rapid fire with Michigan's starting point guard Elliot Cadeau, and his answers are exactly what you would expect from an all-star Wolverine, especially one who just wrapped up his National Championship (and Most Outstanding Player) run with the men's basketball program.
Michigan? Champions. Dusty May? Great coach. Basketball? Lifestyle. National Championship? Elliot Cadeau. Workouts? Intense.
What more could you want to hear from your starting point guard than the fact that he sees himself as a National Champion, he thinks his head coach is one of the greats, and his workouts are all about intensity?
As we talked, it became readily apparent that Cadeau is constantly working to improve himself, whether that be as a person, a player, a teammate, or an athlete.
From transferring to Michigan because he truly believed he "was one of the best guards in the country" to choosing to return for another season with the Wolverines, despite already checking the "National Championship box."
Elliot Cadeau believes in what Dusty May is doing at Michigan
"I thought it was best for my career to enter the transfer portal and get a fresh start," Cadeau said about his decision to leave UNC. "I fell in love with the coaches, the play style, the culture, the school, everything about Michigan.
Cadeau talked about the fact that he believed in himself, but he also thought that Michigan head coach Dusty May could put him in the right position to succeed.
"I felt like Dusty put me in a really good position to showcase [my skills]," Cadeau said. "It just added to my confidence and just helped me have a good season."
When it came to returning for another season at Michigan, Cadeau was quick to say he wanted to develop more as a player before thinking about heading to the NBA, even though he just made the dream of winning a collegiate national title come true.
In fact, he doesn't just want to win another natty, he wants to improve himself as an individual on the court as well, listing the honor of becoming an All-Big Ten player as one of his goals for next season.
One of the big things helping his development is actually one of his latest NIL partnerships: Planet Fitness, which we obviously talked about as well.
He believed that Planet Fitness "aligned with his career," whether that be hitting the gym or using a slew of the amenities for his recovery. He genuinely believes it is "a perfect partnership."
It also doesn't hurt that a handful of other Wolverines are returning for yet another season under May, a complete change from the pieced-together roster that the Michigan head coach turned into a National Championship squad just a year ago.
When I asked him to sum up his first season at Michigan in just a few words, he knew the three words he wanted to say immediately.
"Champions. Leaders. Best."
