The Michigan Wolverines did not end the regular season the way they had hoped, with three straight losses to Illinois, No. 13 Maryland, and No. 8 Michigan State and fell all the way to the 3-seed in the Big Ten Tournament.
The Wolverines were only a half-a-game behind the Spartans after a loss in February, but then, after the late-season collapse, Michigan lost their chance at a regular season title. Naturally, with the way the season ended, Michigan fans are freaking out a bit.
Head coach Dusty May, however, is taking time to reassure everyone that everything is okay adn to stick with the Wolverines. Sometimes seasons go like this, and I am sure fans would want the losses to be in the regular season and not in the postseason.
"Give us two weeks," May said in the Pardon My Take podcast. "These are the most important games coming up, yeah, I wouldn't hit it [the panic button] yet."
The Wolverines simply have to find their groove again, and with a few days off before they start Big Ten Tournament play, they can get rest and recover and potentially even get a few guys back playing that they have been missing.
"We still have a group, we've got a heck of a front line that's continuing to put up staggering numbers, even when they're not playing their best," May said. "I believe that we're gonna make some shots."
Michigan will not know who exactly they will be playing in their first game of the Big Ten Tournament until the end of the day Thursday when the game between Purdue and their opponent is over. On their side of the bracket, Michigan has Maryland, a team they lost to late in the season, but can certainly beat when the time is right.
This is where teams need to be playing their best basketball, and Michigan has a chance to do that in this Big Ten Tournament and then into the NCAA Tournament as well. So don't panic just yet, Michigan fans, if things go bad in the Big Ten Tournament, then you can keep your hand on that panic button.
