Michigan basketball is halfway to its objective of winning the national championship, thanks to a 90-77 win over Alabama Friday night in Chicago.

Alabama controlled the tempo and the game for much of the first half. The Crimson Tide opened on a 12-2 run. They also erased a six-point Michigan lead to go up by two at the half.

Alabama had more 3-pointers, more offensive rebounds, and forced more turnovers in the first half. In the second half, Yaxel Lendeborg happened. He nearly caused a 7-0 run by himself.

In the blink of an eye, thanks to a couple of Lendeborg 3-pointers, and a bunch of others plays on both ends, Michigan led 70-57. The defense did the work on the way in. The Wolverines forced 3-point shots from more bigs, and they couldn't convert.

Dusty May took a calculated risk and it paid off. Alabama made 14 3-pointers, but the Wolverines made 13, and that gap always needed to be much, much larger.

Dusty May said something after Alabama win that should frighten the rest of March Madness

After the game, May said something that should strike fear in other college basketball teams, though, as he said the Wolverines have another gear or two they can reach.

"I like it because we have another we can get to, or another two gears," May said after the win on the broadcast. "We're not playing anywhere near as well as we can, or we have. That's the bright side. We still have a ways to go."

Michigan hasn't played its best. That's fair, yet they have still won three NCAA Tournaments games by an average of 19 points.

If the Wolverines really do have another gear or two, the rest of the field should be very worried.
