Michigan saw all three players in the NBA Draft selected within the first 12 picks, making history for the Wolverines. For the third time ever, an entire front court was selected in the first round of the NBA Draft, and for the sixth time in the last 30 years, three non-freshmen from the same school were selected in the first round,
Morez Johnson Jr. was the first Michigan man selected, heading to the Dallas Mavericks to join his old coach. After accepting the job on Monday, Dusty May made quick work of getting one of his guys to Dallas, but it wasn't the name Yaxel Lendeborg was hoping to hear Tuesday night.
Lendeborg and the other Michigan players in the draft were all happy to see May get the job with the Mavericks, but it was the Wolverines' leading scorer who was hoping to team up with his former coach the most. Lendeborg had a mini mic moment before the draft where he practically begged May to select him at No. 9.
Yaxel wants the Mavericks to draft him at No. 9 to play for Dusty May, his coach at Michigan 😂

Lendeborg didn't get his wish, but instead was taken just two picks later by the Golden State Warriors, and as much as he wanted to team up with his former coach, he went where he was needed. Lendeborg is more likely to have better success with the Warriors than he would with the Mavericks, as his skill set fits in better with Golden State.
Yaxel Lendeborg will fit in better with the Warriors than with the Dallas Mavericks
While it wasn't completely out of the question for Lendeborg to be taken as early as No. 9 by the Mavericks, it seemed like the Warriors had their sights set on the Michigan star for a while. Lendeborg had a workout with Golden State a few weeks ago, and he was able to spell out how the Warriors planned to use him if they got the chance to draft him.
Lendeborg will be used in more of a relief role for Warriors superstar Stephen Curry. When Curry needs a breather on the court, Lendeborg, who is going to the NBA at the age of 23, will be his relief. With the experience that Lendeborg has, this is a great role to start with. Lendeborg is an elite two-way player who can score at the drop of a hat but turn and play stellar defense on the opposite end.
It would have been great to see May adn Lendeborg team up again, especially after seeing what they did in Ann Arbor this last season, but it just wasn't in the cards. With a player like Cooper Flagg on the roster, Lendeborg wouldn't have had much of a role on May's roster. With the Warriors, Lendeborg can really make a name for himself in the NBA.
