107,601. That is the minimum number of fans you will see in Michigan stadium every Saturday this fall.
4,000+. That is the number of Michigan men who have bled maize and blue since the program's inception in 1879.
3. That is the number of players who have won the Heisman while suiting up for Michigan football. That could all change within the next 3-4 years.
"We're not going to stray away from the goal of trying to win it all. When you're at Michigan, that should be your goal every single year," Sherrone Moore said at Big Ten Media Days. What Moore didn't mention is that in today's world of college football, change is inevitable. With that change, it could be just enough for a Michigan Quarterback to reach the promised land. But just what change are we talking about? A modern, pro-style offense.
Bryce Underwood, the Wolverines' 5-Star true freshman quarterback, is the key to Michigan's offensive evolution. With a big arm and playmaking ability, he brings a skill set Michigan football hasn't had -- ever. Even JJ McCarthy, Tom Brady, and Chad Henne don't compare to what Underwood will be capable of in college.
Drawing comparisons to former LSU Quarterback Jayden Daniels, ESPN's Tom Luginbill didn't hold back on what he thinks Underwood can achieve. "Underwood is capable of achieving everything that Jayden Daniels did under center for the Tigers... He will be able to pinpoint the football to intermediate and deep levels of the field." These very things that Luginbill speaks of are what kept Michigan out of the playoffs last season.
What Bryce Underwood brings to the table cannot be overstated. He is one of the highest rated QBs ever, even receiving the first perfect 100 rating from On3 sports, something that may not ever be achieved again. With so much hype, raw talent, and talent surrounding him, it's time to answer: Can Bryce Underwood end Michigan Football's Heisman drought?
The easy answer is yes, he can. But the deeper, more difficult question is, will he? Unless Underwood is a 100% bust of a recruit, he will be in the Heisman conversation year after year, that is, if Sherrone Moore and co. give him the chance to. With that said, my personal belief is yes, Bryce Underwood will bring not only one, but two Heisman's to Ann Arbor. He has the potential to revolutionize the game, and with lackluster QB play in CFB as of late, he could be the lone star in a universe of planets.
