Since his first start on the road at Oklahoma a season ago, Bryce Underwood has been a disaster away from Michigan Stadium.

After back-to-back consistent performances against UTEP and Iowa, he regressed again in Minneapolis on Saturday. He was under 50% on passes and had his lowest passing total this season.

Bryce Underwood can't perform on the road

His best road performance was at Maryland last year, and not against stiff competition. Other than that, he turned the ball over constantly at Wrigley Field and still won, threw for 86 yards at Spartan Stadium in a win, barely broke 100 yards in Lincoln, and somehow has a winning record outside of the Big House in seven true road contests.

On Saturday, he was staring down his receivers again, and it cost him dearly. He missed multiple open receivers that were pointed out on the broadcast or on social media in replays. For his career, he's averaging 162 yards on the road with six turnovers, has more interceptions than touchdowns, and that's not counting the Texas loss in the bowl game, where he was intercepted three times.

Saturday wasn't all his fault, but he'll take the brunt of it because he's so highly criticized. He had no running game to lean on, was sacked three times amd barely had the ball in his possession because the Gophers bled the clock out. Plus, Jason Beck put him in bad positions with some lousy play calls that resulted in seven and a half tackles for loss.

His career at Michigan can be summed up as a huge disappointment thus far. Perhaps it's time to give Tommy Carr a chance and wish for a miracle. Underwood was expected to be like a Cam Newton clone and instead he's been more like JaMarcus Russell. For all the money that he reportedly gets in NIL, it's evident that Underwood has not been worth the hassle.
