No matter what Bryce Underwood said about Ohio State, it was going to cause a stir.
That's the way it works for the Michigan football quarterback. He's a lightning rod. For whatever reason, probably the fact that he was ranked No. 1 in the 2025 class and paid millions of dollars to come to Michigan, just like many other players elsewhere, he's become an obsession of rival fans.
Many of them can't wait to see Underwood fail. They have already labeled him a bust, even though Underwood actually performed better than Dante Moore during his first season as a starter.
Regardless of all that, it seems like every time Underwood talks, his words are turned into something more. He has said some things he probably shouldn't have, especially last season, but fans run with it.
That was true again when Underwood was asked about the Ohio State game and told John Fanta, "It’s just another game. Just with guys in a different color. That’s how I see it."

This had Ohio State fans celebrating (see the comments on the post) as hard as when the Buckeyes beat Michigan football to end a four-game losing streak. Buckeye fans are already counting "The Game" as a victory. They also did that in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024; we'll see if they happen to be right again.
Underwood's comments shouldn't be a reason to celebrate. Many of them believe "The Game" is won because Kyle Whittigam said he doesn't "hate" Ohio State. Michigan fans didn't like Underwood's comments. At least some of them didn't, probably the same folks who didn't like Whittingham's.
Fans can feel however they want. That's the great thing about being a fan. Some will wish that Underwood said more. Maybe it was better that he said less. Whatever the case, it doesn't really matter.
The only thing that does is the way Underwood plays on November 28. That's the only thing that people will remember.
