Both Michigan basketball teams are reveling in the glow of two top-12 rivalry wins over the weekend.
The men's basketball team won a top-10 matchup against the 7th-ranked Spartans, while the ninth-ranked Michigan women's basketball team defeated 12th-ranked Michigan State.
Michigan basketball won by double digits. The women won in overtime. Both teams are still in the mix for the Big Ten regular season championship, and each program is a top-two seed right now, according to recent Bracketology projections.
Michigan basketball bracketology after Michigan State wins
ESPN's Joe Lunardi updated his bracket projection for the 2026 NCAA tournament on Tuesday, and he still has the Wolverines as a No. 1 seed. Arizona is the No. 1 overall seed, but the Wolverines are still in contention for that spot with a 20-1 record.
Nebraska and Michigan State are each seeded third after losses to the Wolverines. Michigan has seven wins over teams currently in the NCAA tournament.
On the women's side, Michigan is also in a strong position. ESPN currently projects the Michigan women's basketball team as a No. 2 seed. The Wolverines are 19-3 overall and 10-1 in the Big Ten.
Two of their three losses were to top-10 teams, including a loss to No. 1 UConn. Michigan women's basketball is one game back of UCLA in the Big Ten standings. The Bruins will come to Ann Arbor on Sunday for a massive showdown.
The Wolverines play Nebraska tonight. If Michigan wins that game, it will be playing for first place on Sunday.
