Michigan football interim head coach Biff Poggi met with the media once again on Monday didn't hold back, as he usually doesn't.

Poggi revealed that he's interviewed a couple of times for the head coaching job. He also said that Michigan was a “malfunctioning organization," under Sherrone Moore according to Austin Meek of The Athletic.

"Everything that happens in that building needs to be reevaluated."

After The Athletic reported on Monday that former head coach Sherrone Moore would break down "sobbing" in meetings, it seems clear that things weren't well inside Schembechler Hall last season, which makes the Wolverines 9-3 record even more impressive.

Just imagine if the program had a competent head coach, forget about elite. Just imagine what someone like Kyle Whittingham could have done with the roster this season.

Poggi has done great work. He's been a great leader for Michigan football since Moore was fired but he doesn't feel like a serious candidate for the job, despite interviewing for it.

Even as a one-year option, it's hard to see that working. Poggi should be retained by the next head coach. He was invaluable to Jim Harbaugh, and Michigan seems to win more games when he's around, like at the end of the 2024 season.

When Michigan football will have a new head coach

Regardless of whether it's Poggi or someone else, the interim head coach shared that Warde Manuel told the team he hopes to have a head coach in place between Christmas and the bowl game, according to Tony Garcia of the Detroit Free Press.

Jeff Brohm is the newest name gaining traction, although other candidates could emerge or re-emerge in the coming days. Either way, Michigan needs a head coach as soon as possible.

It's also needs to be careful not to rush into making the wrong hire, as the Wolverines did with Rich Rodriguez and Brady Hoke.
