The Biff Poggi era at Michigan is officially over.

After Michigan's loss to Texas in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl, Poggi announced in his post-game press conference that he would not return to Ann Arbor next season. Poggi served as Michigan's interim head coach twice this year, first at the beginning of the season during former head coach Sherrone Moore's suspension, and the second after Moore was fired.

Poggi said he had multiple interviews for the full-time head coaching position, but instead, the Wolverines went with the big hire of former Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham. Before the bowl loss, Michigan was 2-0 under Poggi, and now he will move on, most likely in hopes of finding that head coaching position somewhere else.

The now former Michigan coach did take to social media to post his farewell message to his players and all those at Michigan.

Biff Poggi's farewell to Michigan proves his loyalty to the team

Even though Poggi won't be on the sideline for Michigan next season, it is clear he was a loved guy in Ann Arbor. Poggie even said in his post that Michigan would always be his "football home," showing that the Wolverines will always hold a special place in his heart.

Poggi could have been bitter about not being selected as the head coach at Michigan, but instead, he asked in his post that everyone give Whittingham support, as well as the players.

Whittingham is taking over a program that is a bit in shambles right now, with all of the Moore drama over the last month. Now, he will have to work quickly not just to build his staff, but his roster as the transfer portal is officially open, and players will want to see what Michigan has to offer.
