Spring practices are underway for Michigan football, and there is plenty of hype coming out of it. Arguably, no position has more intrigue for Michigan than the quarterback position. The Wolverines brought in the top-ranked quarterback in the nation, Bryce Underwood, along with Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene, to overhaul the quarterback room.

Obviously, everyone has been very excited about Underwood. He's a generational recruit and has all the tools to be a No.1 pick and a Heisman winner down the line. But he is still going to be a freshman. Many believed that Mikey Keene would have a great shot at being the starting quarterback in week one, given his experience. However, that opinion seems to be rapidly shifting for a few reasons.

Bryce Underwood has looked fantastic

All reports coming out of Michigan's practices suggest that Bryce Underwood is the real deal. He's been making incredible plays, and looks like a future superstar. Put simply, he looks like he can take Michigan's offense to the next level. The Wolverines were in dire need of a playmaker at the quarterback position, and Underwood is that guy.

It surely seems that Underwood has been the best quarterback in practice thus far, but one of the reasons for that is that Michigan football only has two quarterbacks practicing at the moment.

Mikey Keene is battling an injury

With Davis Warren recovering from his torn ACL and Mikey Keene being held out of practice due to an undisclosed injury, the only two quarterbacks who have been taking reps are Underwood and sophomore quarterback Jadyn Davis.

This has given Underwood a fantastic opportunity, and it appears that he is taking full advantage of it. While Michigan desperately needs Keene to be healthy by the time the season rolls around, you love to see a young quarterback proving that he deserves the additional reps.

All in all, Underwood seems like the heavy favorite to be the Week 1 starter for Michigan football. His talent, combined with the opportunity he's been given because of Mikey Keene's injury, should result in him being Michigan's starting quarterback. It'll be fascinating to see both Underwood and Davis in action at the Spring Game. Go blue!
