Fall camp has begun at Michigan, which also means the NFL training camps have been underway as football season at both the college and pro levels is just weeks away. As college players work to move up on the depth chart, NFL players are working simply to make the 53-man roster, and for one former Wolverine, he is doing a pretty dang good job so far.
Roman Wilson left Michigan in the best way possible with three Big Ten titles and a National Championship to his name. After helping the Wolverines win it all, he was then selected in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, but since then has struggled to get his pro career going.
That could all change now, especially with the high praise his quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, is throwing his way.
"I think the guy, out of anybody, that has really shown this new staff because it is a new staff, some great tape has been Roman Wilson," Rodgers said. "I expect him to start to make some splash plays; he did in the spring, and I expect him to have a nice camp."

When Mike Tomlin chose to step down as the head coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy took over. This felt like a hire that was made more for Rodgers' sake, as the two were quite the duo in Green Bay.
The offense has been a problem for the Steelers for a while now, never having the punch it needed to balance the stellar defense. Even when Rodgers came to Pittsburgh, the spark never caught, but now with some more help in the wide receiver room, the Steelers could see more from the offense.
Wilson has been one talked about consistently by Rodgers, but he isn't the only one showing off in camp. The Steelers brought back former DK Metcalf for another season and also added Michael Pittman Jr. from the Indianapolis Colts this offseason.
With guys like Metcalf and Pittman in the same wide receiver room, Wilson can take a deep breath and just play his game. In his rookie season, Wilson dealt with a couple of injuries that kept him out for all but five offensive snaps, but in 2025, he finally made his return to the field. His numbers don't jump off the stat sheet, with just 12 receptions for 166 yards and one touchdown in 13 games.
If Wilson has impressed Rodgers this much, he has to be catching the eye of the Steelers coaching staff. Michigan fans should be on the lookout for another former Wolverine to have a breakout season because that connection between Wilson and Rodgers seems to be pretty strong.
