5-star target sets decision date, Michigan eyes a Big Ten commitment

The top recruiting target on the board for Michigan football will announce his commitment on August 19th, plus a new cornerback to monitor in the 2026 class.

We don't have a better idea about where Savion Hiter will commit, but we know when it will happen as the five-star running back has set a commitment date for August 19th.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound running back is ranked ninth overall in the 2026 class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's out of Mineral, Virginia, and is down to Michigan, Georgia, Ohio State and Tennessee.

It feels like Michigan football and Tennessee are the favorites but there aren't any crystal ball projections or expert projections via the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. There's reason to believe that both programs could win out.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the next few weeks. But after not landing any running backs ranked in the top 200 of the 247 Sports composite rankings the past two classes, Hiter is a must-land recruit for the Wolverines.

Hopefully, they can close.

Michigan eyes potential flip of four-star cornerback

Davon Benjamin is an elite defensive back who will be coming off the board on August 2nd. Oregon is trending as the favorite but Michigan is trying to land the dynamic defender, who honestly reminds me of Daxton Hill.

However, if Michigan misses on Benjamin, Danny Odem, a 6-foot-2 cornerback out of Florida, is another name Michigan has on the radar. Rivals reported that the Wolverines are one of four teams in contact with Odem, an elite cover cornerback. He's ranked in the top 10 by 247 Sports. The composite ranking has him at No. 204.

If things go south with Benjamin, Odem could be a realistic option for a flip attempt.
