Michigan head coach Dusty May has proven he can bring top talent to Michigan, whether it be through the transfer portal or high school recruiting. After landing five-star recruit Branden McCoy, who will most likely play a big part in Michigan's starting lineup, May is back looking for top high school talent.

With the 2026 class practically signed, sealed, and soon to be heading to Ann Arbor, May can turn his sights to the Class of 2027 and could get his first commitment soon. Michigan just entered the final four race for five-star point guard Davion Thompson, along with Arkansas, Baylor, and Vanderbilt.

Thompson is the No. 22 player in the Class of 2027, the No. 5 point guard in the class, and the No. 1 player in the state of Missouri, according to 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings.

Davion Thompson can be the Elliot Cadeau replacement Michigan will need in the future

Michigan was both fortunate and unfortunate when it came to the deadline for players to withdraw from the NBA Draft. While the Wolverines lost Morez Johnson Jr. and Aday Mara to the NBA, they did see the return of point guard Elliot Cadeau.

Cadeau's return this season is huge for the Wolverines, especially with the way he mastered handling the offense for Michigan this past season. It will help with the transition of new players for the Wolverines this next season, but without a doubt, he will be heading to the NBA next season, as Cadeau will be out of eligibility.

With Cadeau leaving, May will need a high-level point guard to run the offense, and Thompson could be that replacement that Michigan needs. In spring basketball this year, Thompson has been tearing it up on the court, averaging 21.7 points per game, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists. A point guard who can score easily like that would be huge for the Wolverines.

Michigan will have some stiff competition with John Calipari at Arkansas, Drew Scott at Baylor, and Mark Byington at Vanderbilt. All three teams have had solid success in recent years, especially Vanderbilt, which was one shot away from a Sweet 16 appearance this past season.

Thompson has set his commitment date for June 10, so Michigan fans will be waiting patiently to see if they can get a point guard of the future.
